getting ready for OER/SEDA conference July 20th

Gill and I had our paper accepted for the OER/SEDA conference. Our rather long title is

Equipping academics to design fit for purpose Distance Learning curricula through experiential learning using an OER. We thought it would be an opportunity to disseminate what we are doing at Teesside and get some external critical feedback on the module that Eric Bel and I have designed.

We had a very productive day last Friday working on our presentation and refining the disscussion element of the session and I’m looking forward to 3 hours on the train as an opportunity to focus my thoughts!

There have been several iterations of the module to date and hopefully we are coming to the conclusion of the development and are getting ready to pilot it with our own staff.  Eric and I have been thinking carefully about the  formative experiential activities that are subsumed in the module, which are linked to the production of the particpants own Distance Learning module  as well as the validity of the Module as a whole as an OER.

  1. I suppose I should follow up with news of the conference. It was a very stimulating experience and the unit went down well I would say with the @20-30 people who attended the session. We got some helpful feedback which was helpful with some people making very positive noises. I must say I certainly felt like an OER ‘baby’ as we seemed to be in the company of a number of ‘movers and shakers’ in the OER world.Nevertheless, this was a good test of the unit resource and at least in my view was very encouraging and confirming of all the work Babs and Eric in particular have done on this.
