Academic Registry are currently working on a number of projects to support the recovery planning for the University, to drive excellence around a number of key areas and to contribute to meeting the Vision of Teesside 2025.

One of these projects is focused around two core themes: Excellence in Personal Tutoring and Promoting and Encouraging Student Engagement across the University.

COVID-19 has seen unprecedented times with HE institutions shifting their teaching and supporting learning online at relatively short notice. Given this we are particularly keen to help support colleagues in their practices not only when on campus but also when working remotely away from campus. Key outputs from this project include regular LTE Blog Posts linking, as appropriate, to key resources and the development of ‘Staff Guides’ around the two themes referenced above.

The work is being informed and shaped by current relevant literature and good practices from across the sector. Of equal importance to this project is capturing and sharing the excellent practice that is happening across Teesside University. We are really keen to ensure that the ‘Staff Guides’ reflect the excellent work you all do around supporting your students in their wider learning experience.

We are mindful that recent circumstances will have caused you to change and reflect on normal practices. We are interested to hear about how you support students through personal tutoring and engage your students when working both off campus and on campus. Also, please let us know of any recent challenges you have faced in personal tutoring and engaging your students due to the current restrictions in working off campus.

Please spare a few minutes to share with us how you support your students through personal tutoring and also what you do to encourage student engagement. Please send your suggestions/challenges to n.poppitt@tees.ac.uk

We look forward to hearing from you.
