Tutoring Matters is UKAT’s series of professional webinars presented by UKAT members and experts in the fields of academic advising and personal tutoring. They are a great resource for helping further your own professional learning and practice around Personal Tutoring.

They are designed to support all those engaged with personal tutoring and advising, whether that be as a practitioner, leader or in a related support role. They will also act as key professional development for those undertaking tutoring and advising roles. These webinars are freely available to both members and non-members but you are required to book a place.

The next Webinar in the Series is entitled “Helping Students Cope with Remote” and is taking place on Thursday 23rd April 2020 @ 14.00. Covid19 has presented many practical and emotional challenges for both university students and staff. During this webinar Dr Fran Longstaff, Head of Psychology at Fika, will share some of the psychological content that she’s created for students and discuss how personal tutors may also make use of a Mental Fitness app for students (Fika).

Forthcoming webinars include: Advising in Turbulent Times (Thursday, 07 May 2020 11:00) and Training Personal Tutors to Support the Needs of Diverse Student Populations (Thursday, 28 May 2020 14:00).

It is worth reminding colleagues that UKAT maintain an ‘Archive’ of all past webinars, including a video recording of the webinar, transcripts of webinar chat sessions, presentation slides and other resources.

Some of the Archived Webinars include:

  • Tutoring Online

Academics at UKAT’s recent Covid-19 roundtable discussed how many students are struggling with practical changes to their assessments and experiencing lots of stress and anger about the future and what might happen next. Supporting our students through these difficult times has never been more important. Teesside is committed to delivering excellence through personal tutoring and would really like to hear from Personal Tutors around your experience of tutoring during these extraordinary times.
