Why should I be interested in StREAM?
Research shows that if a student is more engaged with their course, then they are typically more likely to progress in their studies. As such, TU encourages our students to interact with the StREAM platform, to see how their engagement fares and if they are more likely to need support at certain times in their studies.
If you spot a dip in a student’s engagement and you feel that the student needs support, you can refer them to the required service using StREAM. Students have access to their StREAM dashboard so they will be able to see the progress of this referral too.
What is StREAM?
StREAM is the University’s learning and engagement system. Think of StREAM as a “fitness app for education”. StREAM uses data we already have (like checking out a library book, VLE use and door card swipes), to create a personalised engagement dashboard. It provides a picture of how students engage with their learning. Personal tutors can use the StREAM dashboard when they meet with students individually and it is a central place to record meaningful interactions such as personal tutor meetings.
StREAM provides a repository of students’ interactions with various university services, plus a list of referrals that have been made to support an individual’s studies whilst at Teesside. You should access StREAM regularly and create/respond to the interactions where appropriate. For transparency and impact, all interactions are visible to you, the student and specific academic and support staff. As such, the content of all interactions should be thoughtfully considered and adhere to our GDPR policy.
Where can I access StREAM?
StREAM can be accessed via https://engage.tees.ac.uk/ or via the MyEngagement section of UNIverse here
