From September 2020, the University will adopt a hybrid delivery model consisting of on-campus and online delivery, aligned with Government social distancing restrictions. This model is distinctive from existing forms of online or blended delivery. Subject to Government guidance, all students can expect the opportunity to spend some time on campus and some time learning online. The extent of either will depend on the evolution of the pandemic and the requirements of individual disciplines.

Following the above recent University communications with regards to the hybrid delivery model for 2020/2021, colleagues will be considering the implications that this has on course/module design and delivery.  Academic Registry have been working on a number of projects to support colleagues in designing and delivering courses and modules through the hybrid delivery model. These projects are focused around four core themes (Personal Tutoring, Student Engagement, Flexible Assessment, and Creative Learning) and have culminated in separate Practice Guide resources:

  1. Developing Excellence in Personal Tutoring  – Available at this link: https://blogs.tees.ac.uk/lteonline/learning-and-teaching/personal-tutoring/
  2. Promoting and Encouraging Student Engagement – Available at this link: https://blogs.tees.ac.uk/lteonline/learning-and-teaching/student-engagement/
  3. Flexible Assessment in a Hybrid Model – Available at this link: https://blogs.tees.ac.uk/lteonline/learning-and-teaching/flexible-hybrid-assessment/
  4. Nurturing Creative Learners – Available at this link: https://blogs.tees.ac.uk/lteonline/learning-and-teaching/nurturing-creative-learners/

These guides, informed by key literature around these areas, provide an Institutional context and draw on some of the excellent practices across the University and beyond.  Each guide provides some key considerations and suggestions that will help to inform and shape practices, within the University’s hybrid delivery model, aligned to each practice theme.

While these guides are available now, it is our aspiration that they evolve to incorporate more of the excellent practices that are happening across the University, serving as a key mechanism through which practices can be shared.

Please continue to contribute to these practice themes around the work you are doing in your discipline and course when working both off campus and on campus.
