Introduction

Blackboard Ultra has recently launched an exciting new feature – Achievements. The Achievements tool allows you to define criteria to issue rewards to the students in the form of digital badges. Students can see which badges they’ve earned, as well as see what is required of them to achieve other badges.

For the academic, this allows you to gauge student engagement with the module. The Achievements panel gives you an overview of which students have completed the specific achievements created.

For the students, this provides motivation as well as milestones in their learning journey. It can also add transparency to their learning – by defining the parameters required to achieve a particular badge, they can engage with the content in a meaningful way.

Overview

The following video explores how the Achievements work in practice:

Achievements are created based on elements in the module that is gradeable. Tests, assignments, discussion boards and journals can all be incorporated – essentially, anything in the Gradebook. You can also use multiple criteria, allowing you to develop rich and complex achievements quickly and easily.

If you are interested in finding out more, we have prepared a short guide. Click the Blackboard Ultra – Achievements guide to get more information.

As ever, please don’t hesitate to contact the Digital Transformation Team at elearning@tees.ac.uk to discuss your individual needs.
