Introduction

As the new academic year gets underway, there are some commonly asked queries that we get asked regarding Blackboard. This blog post will address some of these, and hopefully get you up and running with your new modules.

Can I copy content from previous years?

It’s very quick and easy to copy content from one year to another. However, please exercise caution when copying over content, especially if that content needs to be updated based on time constraints. For this reason, we generally recommend not copying over any assessment details. This guide walks you through the process of copying content from one year to the next:

Can I copy over video content from previous years

Audio and Video Content should sit in the ReView Video Library of your module. This ensures your module space (see below) is not getting used up and provides a better student experience. It’s possible to copy any such material from one module to another, but the approach is a little different to the above guide. This guide walks you through the process:

Why can’t my students see my module?

All modules are created in a Closed state. This allows you time and space to populate your module before making it live, ensuring the content within the module is accurate and up to date. When you have finished populating your module, you will need to make it “live”. This guide walks you through the process:

Why are some people missing from my module?

Both Staff and Student enrolments in a module are controlled via SITS, which is maintained by your school administrators. If you need any changes being made to the enrolments, please contact them in the first instance so they can process your request.

My module quota is full. Is there anything I can do?

A Blackboard module comes with 1gb of space. This is usually more than enough for most needs. However, from time to time you might get a message to say that your module quota is full. If this happens, ensure that there are no videos or audio files uploaded directly into your module. These can take up large amounts of space and should always be uploaded to the ReView Video Library of your module.

Another common cause is files that have been uploaded but deleted. Blackboard doesn’t actually delete these files, but removes the link to them and they are moved into an “Unused” state. You can quickly clear these out of your module, freeing up valuable space. This guide walks you through the process:
