When you’re creating new teams, more often than not, the most time consuming task is adding all of your students to them.
For small cohorts it can take just a few seconds, but what about 50 students or even 100 students?
Microsoft Teams now has the option to generate a ‘Team code‘. You can distribute the code to your students, via an announcement on Blackboard for example and they can then use it to add themselves to your team.
Microsoft Teams
The first thing we need to do is access Microsoft Teams from the desktop, at the moment you can only generate a ‘Team code’ from a desktop or laptop computer, not a mobile device.
Go to https://teams.microsoft.com and log in with your Teesside University email address and password if asked.
Once you’re logged in to Teams, click the Teams icon on the left to show the list of all of your teams.
Find the team you want to create a ‘Team code’ for and click the more options icon next to it.
From the menu that appears, click Manage team.
Click on the Settings tab.
Expand the Team code area and click the Generate button.
Teams will generate a 7 character Team code, this is the code you’ll need to copy and distribute to your students.
How to join a team with a code
At the moment joining a team using a code is only available using a desktop or laptop computer, not a mobile device.
UPDATE: Since version 1.0.60 of Teams users can now join a team with a code on a mobile device!
Go to https://teams.microsoft.com and log in with your Teesside University email address and password if asked.
Once you’re logged in to Teams, click the Teams icon on the left.
Click Join or create a team.
Enter the code you’ve been given in the Join a team with a code area and click Join team.
