Choosing your university is a big decision, so we’re here to help you get to know us better. If you’re planning on coming along to an open day, here are some top tips to help you prepare:

  1. Research your chosen course(s)

Check out our website and have a look at the courses you’re interested in. Dig into the course content, what grades you need and how you’re assessed. See if it’s what you’re looking for.

  1. Organise travel

How are you going to get here? If you’re coming from outside the area, you might want to travel to Middlesbrough train station. If you’re driving, there is free parking available on-campus, or a park-and-ride service depending on what day you’re coming.

  1. Prepare some questions

You’ll probably have some questions for our academics, student life team, accommodation or student finance. You should think about these before you arrive on the day. Here are some examples:

  • What does the course cover?
  • How will I learn?
  • What are the facilities like?
  • What opportunities are there for practical experience?
  • Are there any placements?
  • What scholarships and bursaries are available?
  • What academic and personal support is available?
  1. Plan your day

See what talks and tours are available and choose which ones you want to attend.

You also might want to think about what you’re going to do with the rest of your day while you’re here. You could have a wander into the town and check out the new entertainment venue Level X. Or you could grab some food at one of our many pubs and restaurants serving options from around the world, including Manjaros, Bloom, Rio Brazillian Steakhouse, UMI Japanese, Akbar’s and many more.
