Considering a nursing career but studied something else at undergraduate level? Not a problem – here’s how you can prepare yourself for a rewarding career.

You can study one of our MSc pre-registration nursing programmes and become a registered band 5 staff nurse in just two years. This is an accelerated route to professional registration, and you can choose from adult, child, mental health or learning disability nursing.

If you have a degree in any subject, these courses are your route in – and it doesn’t need to be healthcare-related. Students from a wide range of undergraduate backgrounds – everything from media and psychology to biomedical sciences, history and English – succeed on these programmes. Of course, you still need to meet the entry requirements, such as having 500 hours of health or social care experience and a portfolio of evidence.

You must also be hardworking, organised and passionate about delivering high-quality nursing care. We value applicants who show a strong desire to develop their knowledge and skills to become confident, competent practitioners.

The MSc programmes are 50% theory and 50% practical, ensuring you are career ready. Practical lab and skills sessions provide the knowledge and experience needed to prepare for clinical practice. During placements, you work in a variety of different settings, from community to hospital environments, giving you a wide range of experiences.

You graduate with a master’s qualification, opening up accelerated career opportunities, including management roles, matron positions and research posts down the line.

But why choose the MSc route instead of completing another BSc? Well, it’s a two-year programme, allowing you to build on your existing degree level study. It’s a great option if you already have experience in health or social care and want to further develop your knowledge and skills.
