Uni finances can feel overwhelming – but you’re not in it alone. We’re here to help every step of the way. This blog breaks down everything you need to know about the financial support that’s on offer at Teesside, so you can feel more confident and focus on getting excited about uni life.

Subject bursaries and scholarships

Our range of course-specific bursaries and scholarships can help you on your way. This could include monetary amounts paid directly to you, or support towards accommodation fees. You may be eligible depending on the course you’re studying, where you live, your financial circumstances or your academic potential. Courses include film and TV, photography, accounting, business, marketing, computing, engineering, law, sciences, and more.

Scholarships beyond your subject

We understand how important financial assistance can be, so we offer a range of support that isn’t tied to specific courses – our universal scholarships are designed to help you based on your personal circumstances, achievements, or financial situation. Whether you’re a high achiever, a care leaver, or facing financial difficulty, there could be extra help available to make university more affordable and accessible for you.

Sports scholarships

Are you a talented athlete or passionate about football? Our sports scholarships support you while you’re studying with us – and your degree can be in any subject. Our Performance Sport Scholarship provides an individually-tailored support package for high-level athletes, helping you balance sporting goals with your academic journey. If you are a footballer and identify as a woman, our Beth Mead Scholarship offers financial assistance alongside a range of training support. And for those who enrol on our Sports Performance Pathway, our George Friend Scholarship is designed to help you if you are facing financial difficulties.

Funding for health students

If you’re studying a health-related course, there’s a range of financial support available to help you through your studies. The NHS Learning Support Fund offers eligible healthcare students up to £5,000 a year to support your studies. There are different grants available depending on your circumstances, including a training grant, parental support and exceptional support fund. And if you’re struggling with the costs of attending your health placement, you can also apply for our Placement Support Fund to help ease the pressure.

Armed forces support

If you’ve served in the armed forces, you may be eligible for financial support through the Ministry of Defence’s Enhanced Learning Credits (ELC) Scheme. We accept ELC funding for most of our undergraduate and postgraduate courses, making it easier for you to take the next step in your career.

Alumni loyalty discount

Already studied with us? On top of the support available during your studies, you may benefit from a 20% discount towards a postgraduate degree if you’ve successfully completed a course at Teesside Uni in the past ten academic years. Our way of supporting your next chapter.
