Clearing is a second chance at getting a place at university, by matching students that want a university place to universities with unfilled places. It is a chance to get a place on a course after the main UCAS application deadline has passed. If you’re successful, you’ll be able to start university this September.
You might choose to go into Clearing for a number of reasons:
- You want to change your subject choice
- You decide to study closer to home or further away from home
- You didn’t get the grade you were hoping for
- You got better grades than you were planning for
- You have only recently decided to apply
53,000 UK students entered clearing in 2022, the most in over 10 years. (Source: The Guardian, 2022).
Check out this video to see guidance from Teesside University about whether you are in Clearing.
Whatever your reason, Clearing is an opportunity to achieve your ambition to study and Teesside University is here to help you find your perfect course.
This video explains how to find your course and apply. Alternatively, you can head over to our Clearing web page to search for which courses are still available for September 2023 entry.
You’ve got your place, what next? Our Clearing next steps video goes on to explain more information about your accommodation and finance after accepting your place through Clearing.
Once you’ve found a place through Clearing, the next challenge is sorting out your university accommodation. At this point, you might not be able to get that ensuite bathroom you had your heart set on, but you should find something satisfactory. Shortly after you accept your place at Teesside University we’ll invite you to apply for accommodation by email. You can take a look at what is on offer here.
Also, you should update your student finance body with where you’ll be studying now and start learning about your new home.
We are here to support you through these times so if you need to chat with us about your options.
