Not since Dorman Long built the Sydney Harbour Bridge has Teesside produced something as wonderful as the parmo.
A flattened piece of fried chicken, topped with béchamel (or just béch if you’re local) and cheddar cheese, not parmesan cheese to the surprise and confusion of Southerners.
Any self-respecting eatery in Teesside has created its own variant, some better than others. Here are a few of the best places we’d suggest to grab one, restaurant or takeaway.
The Buck, Great Ayton
Located on the picturesque banks of the River Leven in the beautiful village of Great Ayton, The Buck is a country pub steeped in history. You can choose from a chicken, pork or vegetarian option or load up your parmo and make it a hotshot, meat feast or Italiano.
Don’t forget to walk it off by the river, then grab a famous Suggitt’s Ice Cream if you have room.
