What’s On at the Students’ Union | April

We know that April can be a particularly stressful time with deadlines looming, but getting out and socialising is a great way to reduce stress levels which can help with your work and improve your mental health.

So why not step out for ‘Middlesbrough’s sparkliest party’, or get away from it all with a visit to Bamburgh Castle? All this and much more is coming to the Students’ Union this month.

Alnwick CastleHarry Potter Trip to Alnwick Castle and Town  |  1 April

Are we excited for a Harry Potter-themed day out? Always.

For those of you who don’t know (muggles), Alnwick Castle was one of the filming locations for Hogwarts in the first two Harry Potter movies. We’re heading there to see where the magic happened, take part in some wizarding activities and see the surrounding area.

Bongo’s Bingo  |  15, 20 and 28 April

Bongo’s Bingo is returning to the Students’ Union for more wild nights of mini raves, dance-offs, singalongs, crazy prizes and some good old-fashioned bingo.

Find it in The Hub between 6.00pm – 11.00pm, with last entry at 7.30pm and the first game beginning at 8.00pm.

Touchdown – Pop Punk and Emo Party Anthems  |  15 April

Is your Spotify filled with hits from Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy and Blink-182? Then the Touchdown – Pop Punk and Emo Party Anthems night is for you.

Come along to The Terrace, 11.00pm – 03.00am, for a night that promises ‘sick tunes’, a tattoo station and classic pub games. Tickets are available on the door.

The Vintage Vera Clothing Sale is back by popular demand.

Whether you’re looking for a couple of statement pieces or to fill your boots with as much as you can carry, come along to The Hub between 10.00am – 6.00pm for Grade A vintage from top brands like Levi’s, Lacoste and Ralph Lauren.

The great thing is it’s a much more sustainable and cost-effective way to update your wardrobe. Check out our blog post all about creating a sustainably sourced outfit for some inspo.

LMAO’s Charity Fundraiser  |  21 April

Laughing My Arts Off presents a night of comedy and music. Host Oli Welham will star alongside six side-splitting stand-up comedians before passing the microphone over to classic rock cover band Acorn Lakes.

Fantastic prizes including a signed Middlesbrough Football Club shirt (UTB) will be available in the raffle!

And the best part is that all of the money raised will support The Neurosurgical Research Fund at The James Cook University Hospital with its vital work and equipment needs.

Tickets are available here for the event, which is set to take place at The Hub, 7.00pm – 11.30pm.

L!PSTICK presents: Bailey J Mills  |  22 April

‘Middlesbrough’s sparkliest party’ is hitting the Students’ Union with another dazzling drag show and a stellar line-up of queens.

Extra special guest Bailey J Mills will be joining Penny TrationKylee Gender and PHATSY alongside L!PSTICK founders Monarchy and spoken word artist Leah Roberts.

We’re told we can expect out-of-this-world glamour, sickening splits, games, prizes, audience participation, male strippers and shade.

Everybody is welcome to L!PSTICK’s show, and audiences are encouraged to dress up to the nines with their highest heels, biggest lipstick and fluffiest lashes. Tickets for the event, which will take place between 7.30pm – 11.30pm, are available here.

Monday Night Quiz – Netflix Special  |  24 April

Ever been told that all of the time you’re spending binging Netflix shows is a waste? Not anymore!

Join us for the Monday Night Quiz – Netflix Special and show off your Netflix knowledge. The top three teams win free drinks or the chance to take home the £400 jackpot. 

Come along to The Terrace, 7.30pm – 11.00pm, to take part. It’s a great excuse to spend the Easter break watching Netflix to prep for the quiz.

On a completely unrelated note, Netflix was founded in 1998. It might be worth remembering that date…

Breakfast Club  |  25 April and every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for the rest of the academic year excluding holidays

Whether you’re a brain, an athlete or a princess, starting from 25 April you can enjoy a free breakfast in the Love It Lounge between 8.30am – 10.00am. 

It’s said to be the most important meal of the day, so you can choose from cereal or fruit. 

The offer is available to all current Teesside University students. All you need to do is show your TUSC.

Open Mic Night  |  25 April

Are you a rising star? Do you have a hidden musical talent? We’re inviting you to step into the spotlight and perform at our next Open Mic Night.

Email the events team to book a slot to perform at the event, held at The Terrace, 7.00pm – 11.00pm, or come along and support our performers.

Karaoke Night  |  26 April

Did you know that Andrew Lloyd Webber claimed he ‘discovered’ Rihanna while she was singing karaoke?

While we can’t promise that Andrew Lloyd Webber will be at the Students’ Union and we can’t promise that the performers will sound like Rihanna, we can promise that you’ll have a blast at our Karaoke Night.

You can find it in The Terrace, 8.00pm – 11.00pm.

Bamburgh and Holy Island Day Trip  |  29 April

From Alnwick to Bamburgh, the Students’ Union is hosting another day trip this month to take in the picturesque views of Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island.

And if you’re an Indiana Jones fan, you’ll be pleased to know that the castle was used as a filming location in the next instalment of the franchise, which is due for release later this year.
