What’s on at the Students’ Union | March

We’re all set for another exciting month of events at Teesside University Students’ Union. 

Whether you’re looking to take in some scenery with a trip to the Lake District or to try your luck at the St Patrick’s Special Bongo’s Bingo event, there’s plenty of opportunities to step out of the classroom and socialise this March.

Karaoke Night  |  Every Wednesday night beginning 1 March

There’s nothing like a bit of karaoke to usher in the new month. And where better to sing along to all the best tunes than at the Students’ Union?

Bring some mates or take to the mic as a solo artist at Karaoke Night, The Terrace, 8.00pm – 11.45pm. 

Don’t forget to check out Time Out’s list of the top 50 karaoke classics for some inspiration, from epic ballads to dancefloor-filling anthems.

TUSU Elections 2023 – Meet the Candidates  |  2 March

It’s time to vote for the next three Teesside University Student Officers – President Education, President International and President Wellbeing. 

Come along to The Hub, 12.00pm – 3.00pm, to meet the candidates and hear directly from them as they discuss why they think they’re the right fit for the roles and field your questions. For those who can’t attend, some of the event will be streamed on the Students’ Union Facebook and Instagram pages.

The Science of Psychedelics with Neuroscientist Maria Balaet  |  2 March

Fancy learning more about the science and history behind psychedelics?

Join neuroscientist Maria Balaet as she explores all this and more, including the latest research with LSD, psilocybin, DMT (ayahuasca) and mescaline. Maria will also look at what the future of psychedelic science could be, including the potential for it to be used therapeutically for specific mental health conditions.

The Science of Psychedelics will take place in The Hub, 7.00pm – 9.30pm, and you can book tickets here.

Bongo’s Bingo  |  3, 16 and 24 March

Back by popular demand – Bongo’s Bingo is returning to the Students’ Union for another epic night of mini raves, dance-offs, singalongs, wild prizes and some good old-fashioned bingo.

Find it in The Hub between 6.00pm – 11.00pm, with last entry at 7.30pm and the first game beginning at 8.00pm.

Touchdown – Pop Punk and Emo Party Anthems  |  4 – 5 March

Calling all pop punk and emo fans. The SU is hosting another raging Touchdown event so you can party the night away to tunes from Panic! At The Disco (RIP), Paramore, Green Day and more.

You can find Touchdown in The Terrace, 11.00pm –  03.00am, and tickets are available on the door.

Lake District

Trip to the Lake District  |  5 March

Sometimes we all need to take a break. And there’s no better way than getting back to the outdoors and taking in the beautiful scenery of the Lake District.

You’ll have the chance to explore three quaint towns in the area, starting with Keswick, where you can visit the ‘best chocolate shop in the Lakes’. The next stop will be Ambleside to see StockGhyll Waterfall.

The day will end in Windermere, where you’ll get the opportunity to walk to the top of Orrest Head Hill to take in the stunning views of Lake Windermere and the surrounding mountains during golden hour.

The group will leave from the Athena Building on Woodlands Road at 10.00am, and you will return to the same spot at approximately 9.00pm. You’ll need to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring warm clothes. To book your ticket, or for more information about the trip, click here.

TUSU Elections 2023 – Cast Your Votes  |  6 March

After you’ve met the candidates for the next Student Officers on 2 March, you’ll have the opportunity to vote for your favourites in the Teesside University Students’ Union Elections 2023.

Remember – your vote is important as it will have a direct impact on who represents you and the rest of the student body in the roles of President Education, President International and President Wellbeing. They will work for at least a year leading the SU in full-time, paid roles.

As part of the elections, there is also a separate vote to choose the NUS National Conference Reps.

Academy Award

Monday Night Quiz – Oscars Special  |  6 March 

Ahead of the 95th annual Academy Awards, we’re hosting a Monday Night Quiz – Oscars Special.

You’ll have the chance to (metaphorically) slap the competition with your knowledge around the successes and scandals of previous Oscars ceremonies, and compete to win free drinks for your team.

The quiz will take place in The Terrace, 7.30pm – 11.30pm.

In Conversation – Adele Parks  |  7 March

Whether you’re a budding novelist, have an interest in literature or just fancy an evening out of the house, you won’t want to miss best-selling author Adele Parks MBE in the next instalment of the University’s new In Conversation series.

The Teesside University honorary graduate will take us on a journey through her life and career within women’s fiction. There’s also an opportunity to ask your own questions in the meet and greet session.

TUSU Elections 2023 – Results Announcement and After Party  |  8 March

Once your votes in the Teesside University Students’ Union Elections 2023 have been counted, it’ll be time to announce who has been elected to the Student Officer roles of President Education, President International and President Wellbeing, as well as the representatives at the NUS National Conference.

The results announcement will be followed by an after party to recognise the hard work of all of the candidates and celebrate the successes of the new Student Officers and NUS National Conference representatives.

There’s lots of fun to be had at The Hub, 7.00pm – 11.00pm, but the results announcement will also be streamed live on the Students’ Union Facebook and Instagram pages for those who can’t make it to the in-person event.

Monday Night Quiz – Paddy’s Day Special  |  13 March

Paint the town red green at our Monday Night Quiz – Paddy’s Day Special.

We’ll be putting your knowledge of Ireland and all things Irish to the test, so come along to The Terrace, 7.00pm – 11.00pm.

Get into the spirit of things and wear green. You can even come up with an on-theme team name. We like The Sham-Rockers and Let’s Get This Paddy Started. Who doesn’t love a good pun?

The Paddy’s Day fun continues with the St Patrick’s Special Bongo’s Bingo event at the Students’ Union.

Come along to see if you have the luck of the Irish as you enjoy a wild night of bingo, raves, games, dance-offs and singalongs.

As usual, you can find it in The Hub between 6.00pm – 11.00pm, with last entry at 7.30pm and the first game beginning at 8.00pm.

Vintage Vera Clothing Sale  |  21 March

Calling all shopaholics, fashionistas and bargain hunters. The Vintage Vera Clothing Sale is back. 

Pick up some vintage threads from brands like Nike, Adidas, Fila, Levi’s, Lacoste, The North Face, Ralph Lauren and many more.

At £20 per kilogram for Grade A vintage with no minimum spend, you can’t go far wrong. Come along to Teesside University Students’ Union between 10am – 6pm and update your wardrobe with more sustainable choices.

Open Mic Night  |  28 March 

Our next Open Mic Night is coming, and we want to hear from YOU.

Grab your guitar, keyboard or trombone (pretty much any acoustic instrument) and take to the stage to share your musical talents.

Email the events team to book a slot to perform at the event, held at The Terrace, 6.00pm – 10.30pm, or come along and cheer on the performers from the audience.
