We all know how important the academic side of university is, but it’s also important to make time away from your studies to step out and socialise.

And where better to do that than at our Students’ Union? There’s lots happening this month, whether you’re looking for a day trip or a night out, so we’ve rounded up the unmissable events we’re hosting that need adding to your calendar…

Karaoke Night  |  Every Wednesday night beginning 1 Feb

Kickstart February with Karaoke Night and belt out the greatest hits at The Terrace. The microphone is all yours between 8.00pm – 11.45pm every Wednesday night.

Want to give it a try but haven’t found your go-to song yet? Check out Time Out’s list of the top 50 karaoke classics for some inspiration.

Bongo’s Bingo  |  2 February, 16 February and 24 February

This ain’t your average bingo event…this is Bongo’s Bingo!

Join us for an evening of mini raves, dance-offs, singalongs, wild prizes and, of course, the game that started it all, some good old-fashioned bingo.

Find it in The Hub between 6.00pm – 11.00pm, with last entry at 7.30pm and the first game beginning at 8.00pm. Tickets are selling fast, so get them quick to avoid disappointment.

Partying at the Students' Union

Touchdown – Pop Punk and Emo Party Anthems  |  4 – 5 February 

Looking to party into the early hours to the best pop punk and emo party anthems? Then Touchdown is the event for you.

With banging tunes from legends like Fall Out Boy, Green Day and MCR, bar games and even a tattoo station (!) there’s lots for you to enjoy at The Terrace, 11.00pm –  03.00am.

York Minster

Trip to York Ice Trail  |  5 February

Discover York’s fascinating history and explore what life in the city would have been like in the Roman, Viking and medieval ages as we take a trip to York.

See the sights – York Minster, the city walls, York Castle Museum, the Jorvik Viking Centre and the Shambles – and enjoy some free time at the local pubs, cafes and shops.

The visit is taking place while the York Ice Trail 2023, the largest ice trail in the country with over 40 sculptures on display, can be seen throughout the city. Did someone say photo op?

Monday Night Quiz – Friends Special  |  6 February

Could we BE more excited for the Monday Night Quiz – Friends Special?

Grab your team and compete to be crowned the ultimate Friends fans while you enjoy a night of quizzing, comedy and music from resident DJ Matty.

There are plenty of prizes up for grabs, so come along to The Terrace, 7.30pm – 11.30pm, if you think you know your unagi from your holiday armadillo…

Monday Night Quiz – Valentine’s Special and Valentine’s DJ Night  |  13 February

Not sure how to celebrate Valentine’s Day with your SO this year? Or fancy a night out with friends? We have two events for you to choose from.

The Monday Night Quiz is holding a Valentine’s Special with resident DJ Matty. As always, there’s fun to be had and prizes to be won, so come along to The Terrace, 7.30pm – 11.30pm.

We’re also hosting a Valentine’s DJ Night in The Hub between 7.00pm – 12.00am. Enjoy special performances by DJ Herry and DJ Ash. The dress code is red, white and black, and tickets are available here.

Roller skates, disco ball and balloons

Stranger Things Roller Disco  |  17 February

The perfect night out for a Stranger Things fan, our special roller disco pays homage to the most streamed TV show of last year. Whether you’re a roller skating pro or a Bambi on ice like Mike, you’re sure to have a blast.

The first session is from 6.30pm – 8.30pm and the second session is between 8.45pm – 10.45pm. Tickets can be bought here, with student discount available for TU students.

So get your skates on, grab some leg warmers and embrace the eighties at our special Stranger Things Roller Disco. 

Monday Night Quiz – Sci-Fi and Fantasy Special  |  20 February

Think you know all there is to know about Harry Potter, Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings and more? Come along to the Monday Night Quiz – Sci-Fi and Fantasy Special in The Terrace, 7.30pm – 11.30pm.

Assemble your team, think of an out-of-this-world team name (we like The Darth Vader Crusaders or Marauder on the Dance Floor) and put your knowledge to the test.

From West End smashes like The Lion King and Broadway hits like Hamilton, we’ll be testing your musicals knowledge at the Monday Night Quiz – Musicals, Stage and Screen Special.

Grab your fellow theatre lovers and join us at The Terrace, 7.30pm – 11.30pm, for your chance to win a mystery prize.

Open Mic Night  |  28 February

Waiting for your moment to take to the stage and share your musical talents? Look no further than our brand new Open Mic Night.

Whether you’re a singer, guitarist or know your way around a ukulele, we want to hear what you can do.

Book a slot to perform at the event, held at The Terrace, 7.00pm – 11.30pm, or come along and cheer on the performers as part of the audience.
