Applying to university can feel overwhelming, and when you’re going through Clearing, the pressure can ramp up quickly. But don’t worry, at Teesside University London, we’re here to help you stay calm, confident, and in control.
Clearing opens from 5 July and is your last chance to secure a university place for September. Here are our top five tips to make Clearing a little less stressful.
- Be prepared
Clearing moves fast, but you’ll feel far more in control if you’re ready ahead of time. Make sure you’ve got everything you need to hand:
- Your exam results
- UCAS Clearing number
- Personal statement
- Key contact details
- A pen and paper to jot things down
Having all this ready means you can focus on the call, not frantically searching for paperwork.
- Be confident and be yourself
Universities want to hear from you. Be clear, calm, and show your enthusiasm. Talk about why you want to study the course, what excites you about university life, and don’t be afraid to highlight your achievements. You’ve worked hard, now’s the time to show them what you bring to the table. We always encourage you to call yourself – not your parent or guardian – because this is your future and your degree.
- Mute the noise
On results day, social feeds can feel overwhelming. Everyone’s sharing their news and it’s easy to compare. Take a break from the scrolling and focus on your journey. Logging off, even just for the day, can help reduce anxiety and keep your head clear.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help
You don’t have to go through Clearing alone. Whether it’s a family member, carer, teacher, or friend — get them involved. They can help you research universities, make notes, or even just bring you snacks to keep your energy up. A little support goes a long way on a busy day.
5. Sleep!
This might sound obvious, but a good night’s sleep really makes a difference. Results day can be emotional, fast-paced, and full-on. Ensuring you are well-rested means you’ll be able to think clearly, stay calm, and make the best decisions for your future.
Clearing isn’t a setback — it’s just another route to finding the right university for you. And at Teesside University London, we’re ready to welcome you with open arms. Stay focused, stay positive, and take each step one at a time.
We’re here if you need us, and we can’t wait to hear from you. Good luck – you’ve got this!
