Welcome Week is one of the most exciting and important times of the academic year for university students. Whether you’re a new student stepping onto campus for the first time or a returning student, this is your chance to get settled, make new friends, and dive into university life.

You can download the full Welcome Week timetable through the InfoHub, you can also read our guide on what to expect and how to navigate Welcome Week, and how make the most out of it.

Meet your course tutors and course mates

You get the opportunity to meet your course tutors and course mates. Here, you can ask any questions you may have surrounding your personal and academic aims during your time at university.

Our tips:

  • be prepared – have a list of questions or concerns ready for your tutors
  • review course modules – familiarise yourself with the course content.

Induction sessions

You receive an overview of your course and an introduction to the University’s systems and procedures, and the digital resources available to you as a Teesside University London student. These sessions cover important topics such as campus safety, how to access student services and student wellbeing support.

Our tips:

  • be engaged – participate actively and don’t hesitate to ask questions
  • take notes – important information about registration deadlines, academic resources, and student societies are shared.

Campus tour

Our friendly student ambassadors take you on a tour of the Here East campus and wider Olympic Park. You can check out the Here East Canalside cafes and bars (we love the Four Quarters retro gaming bar) and all the technology and innovation companies that call Here East their home.

Our tip:

  • explore – take the time to wander around after the tour to familiarise yourself with the area.

Here East Freshers Fest

The Here East Freshers Fest is taking place on Thursday 26 September, 1pm – 5pm in the campus courtyard. It brings together students from across all five universities on the Here East campus to celebrate the start of the academic year. There is live music, food, entertainment and tables set up by various retailers and community services across the campus and local area.

Our tips:

  • gather information – collect brochures, coupons and any freebies offered
  • ask questions – enquire about any services you might need throughout the year, such as mental health support.

Self-care and relaxation

It’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed with all of the information being thrown at you, that’s why it’s important to step back and make time for yourself to reflect on the week as a whole.

Our tips:

  • be organised – keep track of important dates and tasks
  • take a breath – allow yourself time to adjust to these new experiences.

Welcome Week is the first exciting step in your new journey. By taking part in the activities being held on campus and accessing the resources available to you, you can make the most out of that first step. Remember to embrace every opportunity and enjoy yourself – this is the start of your next chapter!
