The Effective Postgraduate Research Supervision Programme provides you with everything you need to know to about supervising and examining research degrees at TU. By the end of the course, you will be able to:
- Understand and apply TU frameworks, policies and processes and expectations to your supervisory practice
- Articulate the key stages within a doctoral journey
- Take a responsible approach to your supervisory practice
- Support students with their professional development, intellectual progress and deliver high quality feedback.
Fast-track programmes are intensive programmes that require time and dedication and are targeted at researchers within our nine research centres. Programmes consist of a mixture of online workshops, webinars, independent learning, and group work.
SUITABLE FOR: Early, Middle, and Senior Career Researchers
DURATION: 6 online workshops over a 10 week period, with independent learning
Week 1: 25th January 2021 – Independent Learning (1 hour) – Reading of Frameworks and Policies
Week 2: 03rd February 2021, 14:00 – 15:30 – Online Workshop (1.5 hours) – What is a doctorate?
Week 3: 17th February 2021, 14:00 – 15:30 – Online Workshop (1.5 hours) – Acting as an Effective Supervisor
Week 4: 03rd March 2021, 14:00 -15:30 – Online Workshop (1.5 hours) – Doctoral Studies at Teesside from Application to Award
Week 5: 17th March 2021, 14:00 – 15:30 – Online Workshop (1.5) – Inclusive and Responsible Supervision
Week 6: 24th March 2021, 14:00 – 15:30 – Online Workshop (1.5 hours) – Supervision in practice: case studies
In addition to the six sessions, participants will be assigned preparation/tasks in between sessions (30-60 mins) and will have the opportunity to engage in supervision observation.
Given limited capacity and to ensure these programmes are useful and effectively meet your needs, an application based approach is taken. Applications will be require approval from your Research Centre Director.
