Securing Research Funding (8 Week Programme)

This Securing Research Funding Programme is aimed at those who are new to grant writing or who want to enhance their grant writing practice. It will provide participants with the essential skills to apply for research funding and put in a high quality application. By the end of the course, attendees will be able to:

    • identify suitable sources of funding for research
    • situate their research within the larger funding landscape
    • write a high quality funding proposal
    • understand project management essentials and post-award processes

Fast-track programmes are intensive programmes that require time and dedication and are targeted at researchers within our nine research centres. Programmes consist of a mixture of online workshops, webinars, independent learning, and group work.

SUITABLE FOR: Early Career / Researchers New to Funding / Final Year PGRs

DURATION: 6 Weeks, 1-2 hours per week (plus 1-2 hours homework)

Week 2 of 6 – Peer Review and Funding Systems 1.0hr 10/11/2021 10.30-11.30
Week 3 of 6 – Getting Started with Grant Writing 2.0hrs 17/11/2021 10.30-12.30
Week 4 of 6 – The Research Environment 1.5hrs 24/11/2021 10.30-12.00
Week 5 of 6 – Identifying and Justifying Resources 1.0hr 12/01/2022 10.30-11.30
Week 6 of 6 – Developing your Funding Strategy 1.5hrs 19/01/2022 10.30 – 12.00

 

In addition to the six sessions, participants will be assigned preparation/tasks in between sessions (30-60 mins), have the opportunity to book 1-2-1 Consultations (30 mins) to further develop their Funding Strategy, and attend online writing boot-camps (2 hours).

OUTPUTS

Over the duration of this course, you will produce:

  • a research strategy
  • a draft funding bid

Bookings will require approval from your Research Centre Director or PGR Supervisor.

Middle Career Researcher ELEVATE Programme (8 Weeks)
Jan 13 @ 1:00 pm – Mar 10 @ 2:30 pm

The MCR Elevate Programme supports middle career researchers to take the next steps in their research career and address some of the common challenges faced by mid-career professionals. This intensive programme consists of sessions on research leadership, responsible research, collaborative working and partnerships, and identifying next steps for career progression.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

    • develop a vision and strategy for their programme of research
    • support the development of a responsible and innovative research culture
    • diversify their research portfolio, build research consortia and initiate international and interdisciplinary research collaborations.
    • build productive external collaborations with non-academic partners
    • understand team dynamics and how to support and develop others
    • develop and implement a research strategy

DURATION: 8 Weeks, 1-2 hours per week (plus 1-2 hours homework)

OUTPUTS

Over the duration of this course, you will produce:

    • an outline for a collaborative bid
    • a personal development plan
    • a pledge to enhance research culture locally and within your discipline
