Aside from our Students\u2019 Union there are three pubs on campus, The Dickens, The Star and The Southfield.<\/p>\n
The best of the three and most popular among students is The Southfield.<\/p>\n
It has a fine selection of international and craft beer, spirits, including homemade flavoured vodka and wines.<\/p>\n
Thursdays see all of their craft beer set at \u00a33 or less and they offer a speed quiz on Sundays.<\/p>\n

Middlesbrough<\/p>\n JD Wetherspoon, or \u2018Spoons\u2019 to locals, is the biggest pub chain in the country.<\/p>\n Their popularity comes from their large variety of cheap drinks and food.<\/p>\n In Middlesbrough, there are two – Swatters Carr and Lloyds the Resolution.<\/p>\n Swatters Carr is more favourable to students as it is just around the corner from campus.<\/p>\n A perfect place to kick off Friday festivities.<\/p>\n Twisted Lip<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Baker Street, Middlesbrough<\/p>\n Only a couple of streets away from the University\u2019s Middlesbrough Tower, Baker Street (and Bedford Street) are the hipster quarter of Middlesbrough.<\/p>\n On Baker Street, you will find Rafferty\u2019s, Sherlock\u2019s, Slater\u2019s Pick and Twisted Lip.<\/p>\n All very niche, modern and cool pubs with a completely different feel to chain pubs.<\/p>\n Twisted Lip is the biggest and most popular of the Baker Street pubs, – it hosts open mic, quizzes and gigs.<\/p>\n It also has a vast array of real ales, lagers and ciders, both domestic or imported.<\/p>\n Twisted Lip\u2019s drinks are more expensive than a chain pub, but you pay for the better quality ambience and aesthetic of the place.<\/p>\n (caption: Middlesbrough\u2019s pub hotspot)<\/p>\n Infant Hercules<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Grange Road, Middlesbrough<\/p>\n Comfortably nestled alongside the Tea House, Infant Hercules is one of many micro-pubs dotted around Middlesbrough.<\/p>\n Closer to the University on Borough Road, is Devil\u2019s Advocate but Infant Hercules comes with a great reputation.<\/p>\n The pub is said to be very welcoming for all, to go with its real ale selections.<\/p>\n Not just beer, it has also hosted gin and nibbles nights.<\/p>\n (Pic belongs to Infant Hercules)<\/p>\n O\u2019Connell\u2019s <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Bedford Street, Middlesbrough<\/p>\n At the end of Bedford Street lies O\u2019Connell\u2019s, a throwback to a traditional-style pub.<\/p>\n O\u2019Connell\u2019s has to compete with the more modern and swanky Chairman and Nuthatch, along that road.<\/p>\n It manages so in many ways – it plays live music every Saturday and has a great food menu, and its Sunday roasts are said to be the best in Middlesbrough.<\/p>\n Look out for O\u2019Connell\u2019s on St Patrick\u2019s Day, its biggest event of the year.<\/p>\n (Pic belongs to O\u2019Connell\u2019s)<\/p>\n Going to the pub with friends is always encouraged and can be a fantastic time but remember to drink responsibly.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Pubs, taverns and alehouses have been staples of British culture for centuries.
