You have probably already discovered that your personal statement is a key part of that. Here are a few things you can do to ensure you stand out from the crowd!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A personal statement is a written piece of text, personal to you, to support your application to university.<\/strong> Your personal statement should be no more than 4,000 characters (which is about 500 words).<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re ready to apply to university, get started on your personal statement \u2013 and allow plenty of time for checking and editing.<\/p>\n<p>You may feel the prospect of writing a personal statement daunting, but there\u2019s lots of guidance available to help you get it just right. It\u2019s a great opportunity to tell the universities you\u2019re interested in why you are a good candidate for the course(s) you\u2019re applying for.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Quick checklist<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Explain <strong>why\u00a0<\/strong>you have chosen your subject and what interests you about it.<\/li>\n<li>Show that you <strong>understand what your chosen subject is all about<\/strong> \u2013 and that you understand any related professions.<\/li>\n<li>Explain what interests you about your <strong>current studies.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Highlight your <strong>work experience<\/strong>, placement or voluntary work and explain\u00a0<strong>why<\/strong> this is relevant to the course you\u2019ve chosen.<\/li>\n<li>Explain what your <strong>graduate ambitions<\/strong> are, if you know.<\/li>\n<li>Highlight your <strong>personal skills<\/strong>, such as communication, teamwork, and organisation \u2013 make sure you <strong>provide examples<\/strong> of when you have demonstrated these skills, and how and why they will be useful to you at university.<\/li>\n<li>Highlight your <strong>academic achievements.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Reference any\u00a0<strong>other achievements<\/strong>, awards or programmes you have been involved in outside of school or college \u2013 this can also include summer schools, placements or taster events. Make sure you explain <strong>what you learned<\/strong> from these experiences.<\/li>\n<li>Include your social, sports and leisure interests and how the <strong>skills and qualities\u00a0<\/strong>you have gained from these interests will help you at university and beyond.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure your statement is original. Don\u2019t copy from a classmate or include false statements.
