If I could open a journal entry from July 2024, I\u2019d tell myself, \u2018We did it. We made it into postgraduate study.\u2019<\/p>\n
Like everyone else making a big decision, I had spreadsheets full of comparisons, pros and cons neatly color-coded, and tabs open on every university website you could imagine, and I had filtered out some of my top choices.<\/p>\n
But the one that ticked all my boxes?<\/p>\n
Teesside University.<\/p>\n
I knew I wanted a postgraduate course that was practical, career-focused, and connected to an industry I was already well-versed in – digital marketing. And since I have never been much of a researcher, a taught course made more sense to me.<\/p>\n
Teesside University caught my eye straight away. The tutors aren\u2019t just academics, they\u2019ve worked in the industry which makes everything they teach feel more relevant.<\/p>\n
The facilities sealed the deal for me – from the digital labs to the expansive library; and support seemed readily available if you need it. Plus, living here is affordable, with a welcoming and diverse community.<\/p>\n
My first day on campus was one for the books as I got caught in a literal storm.<\/p>\n
I also got lost and found myself in the wrong class for 30 minutes before I figured out the fresh-faced teenagers weren\u2019t my postgraduate course mates.<\/p>\n
But, I was mostly filled with awe at the fact that I was actually there.<\/p>\n
Meeting my tutors was another highlight. What struck me straight away was how approachable they were.<\/p>\n
In fact, I remember being excited when on my first day of classes, my lecturer turned out to be someone I had researched and referred to while writing my statement of purpose during applications.<\/p>\n
And that same lecturer gave me one of the best bits of advice – \u2018Come to school with your packed lunch. Don\u2019t spend all your money on food!\u2019<\/p>\n
And now, I pass on this same useful nugget to you.<\/p>\n
One of the things I\u2019ve loved most about my course is how connected it feels to the real world. It\u2019s not just theory; we\u2019ve had guest lectures from people working in the industry, and those sessions always leave me buzzing with ideas. I remember one speaker breaking down how brands use data to shape campaigns, and as someone who has already worked in a fast-paced agency, it felt like being back in a brainstorming session; only this time, I had better and more data-driven ideas.<\/p>\n
If you\u2019re thinking about doing a postgraduate course, my advice is simple: be curious and dive in. Explore every corner of campus, ask questions, and make the most of any opportunities \u00a0to connect with tutors or industry guests.<\/p>\n
Think about what matters most to you; and let that guide your choices. Also, don\u2019t underestimate how much having a supportive community helps. Make friends, join groups, and lean on the resources around you.<\/p>\n
Choosing Teesside felt right for me, and it\u2019s been one of the best decisions I\u2019ve made.<\/p>\n
