Should I convert?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Conversion: the act or process of changing something into a different state or form; synonyms include changeover, metamorphosis, transfiguration and transformation.<\/p>\n

Or more simply put \u2026 a postgraduate<\/a> (PG) conversion course<\/span> at Teesside is an opportunity to widen your range of skills, increase your confidence of landing work in a specific field or give you a change of career in a new area. \u00a0<\/strong>After 20 years in e-commerce and digital marketing Tom Coley<\/a> <\/span>had reached a point where the industry had changed so much and he wanted to stay at the forefront, combining my experience with fresh ideas and new approaches. Postgraduate study saw him update and refine skills; but it was also a deeply personal journey. Tom said, \u2018I felt I\u2019d hit a plateau. I wanted to be better, to do business better and to challenge myself in a way I hadn\u2019t done in years. My learning had been through experience \u2013 trial and error, moments of success and plenty of mistakes. I wanted to see how that knowledge measured up against those coming into the industry fresh from education,to make sure I wasn\u2019t being left behind.\u2019<\/p>\n

Tom\u2019s first degree was in business with marketing at Teesside which meant he benefitted from a 20% loyalty discount when he enrolled on the MSc Digital Marketing.<\/p>\n

He said, \u2018Balancing a full-time MSc, a new role and being a single parent was one of the most challenging things I\u2019ve ever done.\u00a0I couldn\u2019t have done it without the people around me. For Lucie Simon<\/a><\/span> the flexibility to study one module a term while working full time helped her decide that the part-time MSc Digital Marketing pathway was for her. She said, \u2018I studied my undergraduate degree in fashion journalism, and naturally started writing online and creating social media content. This led me into marketing roles, though I didn\u2019t have any marketing background in my studies. I chose this course because I wanted to develop a more analytical side to my skills. I\u2019ve also developed my confidence, entrepreneurship and innovation.<\/p>\n

\u2018I would recommend anyone considering PG study to go out of your comfort zone and take new opportunities to develop your career and personal goals.\u2019<\/p>\n

For Amy Williams<\/span><\/a> <\/span>as a history undergraduate (UG) at Teesside, her path to the MSc Digital Marketing course came about when she realised that a teaching career wasn\u2019t for her. She said, \u2018As part of my degree, my work placement was in the history department at a local secondary school, l quickly realised that the school environment wasn\u2019t for me. It was disappointing but I was grateful for this work experience before committing to a PGCE; it gave me the time to explore other career options while finishing my first degree.<\/p>\n

\u2018As a UG student I reached a level of academic and personal growth far beyond what I had envisioned when deciding to change career in 2020. Teesside gave me the confidence to take risks and push myself out of my comfort zone. My experience as a UG student made Teesside the perfect place to continue my education as a PG student.<\/p>\n

\u2018Teesside International Business School has global industry links and networking opportunities with the option to participate in live business projects and field trips. I also benefitted from industry trips, including the World Travel Market in London, which was fantastic to see how global travel companies approach marketing their brand and offerings. I also visited Edinburgh airport to complete a marketing task to discuss our results and ideas with the head of marketing. The travel sector is a key interest of mine as I run a small independent travel business and these trips allowed me to educate myself, network, and gain hands on task experience.<\/p>\n

\u2018My postgraduate journey has been about more than just academic learning. It\u2019s been about transformation, taking opportunities and pushing myself to grow. Looking back, I can confidently say that choosing to study at Teesside University was one of the best decisions I have ever made.\u2019<\/p>\n
