Unlike loans, scholarships are free money. With the rising cost of living, they can help minimise your debt, reduce financial stress and help you focus more on your studies.<\/p>\n<p>In this blog, we are going to myth bust some of the most common misconceptions about applying for a university scholarship.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018Most scholarship awards are too small, so why bother\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a wide range of amounts available. Our scholarships range from \u00a32,000 to \u00a327,000. Something is better than nothing, every penny counts!<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018It\u2019s really competitive and too many people apply. I have no chance\u2019.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The reality is that not many people apply! Numbers can sometimes be low, so you really do have a good chance if you\u2019re eligible. What\u2019s the saying? If you don\u2019t ask, you don\u2019t get.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018Teesside University doesn\u2019t offer scholarships, only the top-ranked universities like Oxford and Cambridge do\u2019.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Teesside offers a range of scholarships and bursaries to help you on your way. You\u2019ll find a variety of scholarships available, some of monetary value and others that provide equipment and learning resources to support your studies.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018I don\u2019t have time to write an application, it takes too long to apply\u2019.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Many of our scholarships require just a 5-minute application.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a word count to highlight that we don\u2019t need pages and pages from you. It might be that we only want 200 words per question, it says on the form.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018The process is really difficult, it\u2019s not worth the hassle\u2019.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When you apply you\u2019ll likely be asked a few details about yourself and a handful of questions such as \u2018What would the award of a scholarship mean to you?\u2019 or \u2018What are your career ambitions?\u2019. For some scholarships, it\u2019s your UCAS points (merit-based) that will matter, for others &#8211; it\u2019s your financial need (need-based) scholarships. Most of Teesside\u2019s scholarships are the latter.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s something for everyone including care leavers and students seeking asylum.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018You have to pay the money back anyway in the end\u2019.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Scholarship awards are usually paid directly to you, and they don\u2019t need to be paid back like a student loan.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018It will affect my student loan\u2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Student Finance England doesn\u2019t need any information on a scholarship, this will not affect your entitlement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018I don\u2019t know where to start \u2013 there\u2019s no help\u2019.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are here to help. We offer a generous funding package for many of our courses. We have general scholarships and subject scholarships for arts and media, business, computer games, computing, engineering, nursing and health and science.
