Teesside is the birthplace of such musical legacies as Free and Bad Company frontman Paul Rodgers, X-Factor winner James Arthur and 80s hair\/metal band Whitesnake.<\/p>\n

They all had to start somewhere, mainly their local venues, pubs, clubs, even weddings.<\/p>\n

If listening to music is your thing, here are a few spots around Teesside University which regularly play fresh new sound.<\/p>\n

Westgarth Social Club<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Southfield Road, Middlesbrough<\/p>\n

Opposite Athena on Teesside University campus, sits the Westgarth.<\/p>\n

It has been home to some of music\u2019s biggest acts of recent years.<\/p>\n

James Bay, Catfish and the Bottlemen, and The Vaccines have all played to sold-out shows here.<\/p>\n

They have someone new playing every month, with four bands booked.<\/p>\n

KU Bar<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Regent House, Stockton-On-Tees<\/p>\n

10 minutes outside of Middlesbrough is Stockton-On-Tees – or just Stockton to locals.<\/p>\n

Stockton-On-Tees has taken an upturn in recent years with its food and drink establishments, it has a multitude of options.<\/p>\n

A favourite nightlife hotspot, KU also has at least three gigs a month.<\/p>\n

It famously hosted Arctic Monkeys, in 2005.<\/p>\n

Basecamp<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Exchange House, Middlesbrough<\/p>\n

Chances are you don\u2019t know where this place is. If I told you it was next door to the Teesside Archives, you probably still wouldn\u2019t know where it is.<\/p>\n

New onto the local music scene, Basecamp is run by Ten Feet Tall, the company behind old Empire nights Sumo and Milk.<\/p>\n

It is a great opportunity to listen to the latest upcoming local acts, with a couple of gigs each month.<\/p>\n

This venue is on the rise.<\/p>\n

The Georgian Theatre<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Green Dragon Yard, Stockton-On-Tees<\/p>\n

One of the oldest Georgian theatres in the country, this venue is just outside of the Castlegate Shopping Centre, amongst some of Stockton\u2019s hipster bars.<\/p>\n

It has at least two gigs a week, giving plenty of opportunity.<\/p>\n

The Georgian Theatre has played host to world-famous acts like Arctic Monkeys, and even Martha and the Vandellas.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s fair to say there\u2019ll be dancing in the streets when the Georgian is rocking.<\/p>\n

Students\u2019 Union<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Teesside University, Middlesbrough<\/p>\n

For Freshers, you will spend a lot of time at the Students\u2019 Union (SU).<\/p>\n

Having this facility on campus is a boost for students who don\u2019t want to travel far.<\/p>\n

The SU host lots of events all year, including live music.<\/p>\n

Watch out for the end-of-year Final Fling, with many big names playing every year.<\/p>\n
