I hope you are all safe and well in these turbulent times.
It’s really exciting that you’re here and maybe considering studying at Teesside University. You may have already been in Higher Education and coming back to it, or you may be at the beginning of your journey in education. Whatever the case, it’s great that you are considering our upcoming Online Open Day (OOD).
It really is a shame that we cannot welcome you to our beautiful campus in person and get to know you, however, our OOD is packed with plenty of live talks, information sessions and you’ll even be able to take some 360 online tours and see some drone footage of our campus – you’ll feel like you’re really here with us!
In addition to all of that, we’ll be available to talk funding, accommodation, student life, applications, facilities and all of the things you need to know to be able to make an informed decision about embarking on your educational journey with us here at Teesside University. We will also be available to answer any burning questions you might have, and we’ll be providing lots of subject-specific information so you can make sure you’re all clued up about your dream course with us.
Approach an online event or open day in the same way you would if you were going to a university campus in person. Do plenty of research on university websites and make a list of ay unanswered questions you have and the people you need to speak to find out the answers. Think about:
- the course – what facilities are available and how much access will you have to them? will you get the chance to go on a placement? how many teaching hours are involved each week? how will you be assessed?
- living – if you want to move away from home, what accommodation is available? is accommodation guaranteed? how much is it and is it on campus? what support is available if you have additional needs?
- support – what is available if you have mental health needs? what support can you get if you have a disability? can you access to extra equipment to help with your work? is online or one-to-one counselling available?
- financial – are scholarships available? can you get help with your funding application? can you access support if you have dependents? is budgeting advice on offer?
On a final note, I have been a student at the University for the last seven years and I would definitely encourage you to consider visiting our striking campus (which has recently had over £275m invested in it!), and our vibrant little town once it is safe to do so. There really is so much to love about living and studying here including an award-winning campus heart, state-of-the-art science and engineering facilities, an amazing redevelopment of the Students’ Union and our £2.75m health and fitness centre. Teesside also hosts a national park on the doorstep, unique shopping, culture, bars and famous clubs. I love it!
I would love nothing more than for you to experience these things for yourself when the time is right but until then, I hope you enjoy our OOD and I wish you all the best with your education and future career.
