BA Dance students had a great time performing at their end of year performance during Creative Arts week. Choreographies from international choreographers Zubaidah Saebu, Jack Webb and James Wilton were part of the programme and an audience saw two energetic and varied shows!
Dance lecturer Heike has just returned from a week long professional development course in Choreological studies in London. Laban principles are part of Teesside’s teaching and the students are looking forward to a very special event in October, when Jean Newlove, who was Rudolf Laban’s assistant, will visit the University to teach a master class.
Head of Performing Arts Ronan Paterson trying very hard (if a little unsucccessfully) to look graceful during a workshop in Haka Opera at the Asian Shakespeare Association conference in Taipei, Taiwan. Ronan, who has travelled all over the world speaking about, performing or directing Shakespeare’s plays, gave a paper at this prestigious event which drew participants from all corners of the globe. Teesside has a research partnership with Providence University in Taiwan, and is now involved in a research project on Manga versions of Shakespeare with Shirayuri College in Tokyo and Tsukuba University, also in Japan. Watch this space for news of an exciting event in the UK next year!
With applications for degrees beginning Sept 14 being finalised and those for Sept 15 opening soon the dance staff at Teesside have been inundated with requests to conduct workshops at various sixth form colleges.
Today, Laura from Dance and Sarah from PLaRM, were delighted to visit the fantastic department at Prior Pursglove and teach an enthusiastic bunch of performing arts students. Lots of talent present, we hope some of you will join us at Tees soon!
