The need to quickly provide feedback to students was achieved through an asynchronous Question and Answer space\u00a0enhanced with video recording of live explanations provided within class.<\/p>\n<p>This solution was delivered by module leader Steven\u00a0Fenby\u00a0and Dr Marjorie Wilson and in the\u00a0SoHSC\u00a0on\u00a0a level 5 module titled &#8216;Introduction to Physiology for Physiotherapists\u2019. The module ran during semester one with\u00a0a cohort of 60 students.<\/p>\n<p>This is a\u00a0fast paced\u00a0module with lots of new and challenging content each week.\u202f In a\u00a0large class students\u00a0require individual support to help them\u00a0comprehend new concepts each week. This created a\u00a0need\u00a0for\u00a0a\u00a0safe\u00a0space for students\u00a0to ask questions and receive answers both in class and at a distance.<\/p>\n<h6><b>How the solution was provided\u00a0<\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h6>\n<p>A Q&amp;A\u00a0board\u00a0was\u00a0created with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.padlet.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Padlet<\/a>.\u00a0 Padlet allows for the creation of project walls to share resources and collaborate with others via posting text and media to the wall. To further enhance this experience the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/2018\/11\/06\/panopto-app-important-information\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Panopto\u00a0<\/strong>(ReView)\u00a0app<\/a> was used\u00a0on the iPad\u00a0to record the answers to questions asked within the class room.\u00a0The video clips were then uploaded to the Padlet wall.\u00a0This helped students as it provided an easily accessible recording of explanations to\u00a0refer back\u00a0to without having to access the whole lecture recording.<\/p>\n<h6><b>Staff Benefits<\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h6>\n<p>This\u00a0solution\u00a0saved\u00a0time for tutors as providing individuals answers to questions in a collaborative space allows for all students to read the responses, reducing the need to repeat explanations.\u00a0The use of\u00a0the Q&amp;A board\u00a0has become an\u00a0advantageous substitute for the subject support previously available during individual tutorials.<\/p>\n<h6><b>Lessons Learnt\u00a0<\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h6>\n<p>Initially\u00a0there were\u00a0issues with using the broadcast feature in Padlet to share the Q&amp;A wall within the\u00a0classroom. Embedding the Padlet within Blackboard\u00a0has\u00a0worked well\u00a0and reduced these issues.\u00a0As\u00a0Padlet has limits on the size of video it can upload\u00a0the solution was to use\u00a0the\u00a0Panopto\u00a0app in the toolkit to\u00a0both\u00a0create and compress video before posting to\u00a0the\u00a0Padlet wall.<\/p>\n<p><b>S<\/b><b>tudent F<\/b><b>eedback<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Feedback from the students was overwhelmingly positive\u00a0and\u00a0highlighted\u00a0numerous\u00a0benefits.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsive feedback:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><i>\u00a0\u201cVery\u00a0<\/i><i>helpful<\/i><i>\u00a0any questions you need to ask are quick and easy to ask on here. Useful resources are also posted by others which really help with my learning. Overall a really great idea\u201d.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cAsk a question very useful, helped me understand more about the subject. The tutors\u2019 response on questions is fast\u201d.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><strong>Easily accessible pool of learning resources:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cAsk a question is great, it is easily accessible from blackboard and tutors provide excellent material links\/information\u201d.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Very useful for looking at what questions have been asked, also good for asking for resources out of the class setting.\u202f<\/i><\/p>\n<p><strong>Useful for revision:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cUseful especially at home when coming across questions in revision rather than waiting until the next teaching session\u201d.<\/i><\/p>\n<h6><strong>Conclusions<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>From the feedback comments it apparent that students appreciate the \u2018concerted and visible effort\u2019 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/full\/10.1080\/13562517.2018.1461620\">Lubicz-Nawrocka and Bunting, 2017<\/a>) by the lectures who\u00a0provided\u00a0accessible and helpful information to support their learning in a timely manner. The use of toolkit facilitated the prompt delivery of feedback by allowing the provision of additional learning materials in ways that are also accommodating to students with different learning needs.<\/p>\n<h6><strong>How do I do this? <\/strong><\/h6>\n<p><strong>To insert a Panopto video into Padlet<\/strong> record your video via the Panopto app and save the recording to \u2018My Folder\u2019.\u00a0 Once the video is processed, click on the Share option. You will need change the permissions to \u2018Anyone with the link\u2019 and save the changes before copying the link in Panopto to add to a Padlet post.
