{"id":3551,"date":"2017-03-07T09:00:08","date_gmt":"2017-03-07T09:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/?p=3551"},"modified":"2017-03-07T10:02:31","modified_gmt":"2017-03-07T10:02:31","slug":"commitment-to-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/2017\/03\/07\/commitment-to-development\/","title":{"rendered":"Supporting staff to gain UKPSF accreditation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A strategic aim of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tees.ac.uk\/docs\/docrepo\/about\/teesside_2020.pdf\">Teesside 2020<\/a> is to develop professional high-quality staff that deliver to student expectations.\u00a0 The University\u2019s Learning and Teaching Strategic Plan (2016-2020), elaborates further as to how this will be achieved.\u00a0 This strategy is broken down into two main areas: Student Experience and Learning and Teaching (including assessment and feedback) and a key component is that it will be underpinned by quality staff whereby excellence in learning and teaching will be recognised, celebrated and rewarded.\u00a0 It continues to state:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u2018Staff will be encouraged to become Fellows of the Higher Education Academy and other Professional bodies.\u00a0 Engagement will influence and encourage innovative approaches to learning and teaching. \u2026 Staff will be encouraged to attend courses, seminars and workshops to draw on best practice across the sector as well to highlight best practice at Teesside University.\u2019<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Recent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hefce.ac.uk\/media\/HEFCE,2014\/Content\/Pubs\/Independentresearch\/2016\/Report,on,research,and,data,analysis,on,academic,teaching,qualifications\/2016_tquals.pdf\">research and data analysis<\/a> and a subsequent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeshighereducation.com\/student\/news\/uk-universities-most-qualified-academic-staff\">article in the Times Higher Education<\/a> confirms and supports the University\u2019s commitment to staff development in delivering high quality teaching and learning.\u00a0 According to data collected between 2014 and 2015 from Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), detailing universities in England with the most qualified academic staff, Teesside University is in second position with 84% of its staff with a known teaching qualification.<\/p>\n<p>This recognition provides the assurance around the effective institutional strategies and activities in place around initial and continuing professional development of staff that teach and support learning. Teesside University has its own Professional Development Framework which encompasses our PgCLTHE and CPD programmes and is accredited by the Higher Education Academy providing external and independent confirmation that these programmes are aligned with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heacademy.ac.uk\/system\/files\/downloads\/uk_professional_standards_framework.pdf\">UK Professional Standards Framework for Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher Education (UKPSF)<\/a>.\u00a0 Our framework provides participants with the opportunity to be professionally recognised through the Higher Education Academy\u2019s fellowship scheme thus allowing University colleagues to ensure their professional practice is UKPSF\/HEA recognised either through the Post Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (PgCLTHE) taught Programme and\/or the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programme.
