Rather than simply reading content, students engage in a guided dialogue that encourages them to question ideas, reflect on their understanding, and explore concepts more deeply.<\/p>\n<p>There are <strong>two main ways AI Conversations can be used<\/strong> in your module.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Socratic questioning<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/?attachment_id=17365\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-17365\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17365 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/files\/2026\/03\/Socratic.jpg\" alt=\"Blackboard Ultra user interface showing the Socratic questioning feature.\" width=\"455\" height=\"419\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/files\/2026\/03\/Socratic.jpg 753w, https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/files\/2026\/03\/Socratic-300x276.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 455px) 100vw, 455px\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In this mode, students explore an open-ended topic through a series of guided questions. The AI does not simply provide answers; instead, it prompts students to think critically, challenge assumptions, and refine their reasoning.\u00a0 It transforms passive learning into active exploration and encourages deeper engagement with complex ideas.<\/p>\n<p>Because the conversation is private and self-paced, students can work through their thinking without the pressure of speaking up in a live classroom setting.<\/p>\n<p>For example, the Socratic section could include something like:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>exploring <strong>ethical dilemmas in healthcare<\/strong> where the AI challenges a student\u2019s reasoning about patient care decisions<\/li>\n<li>discussing <strong>historical events<\/strong>, where the AI prompts students to question causes, consequences, and differing perspectives<\/li>\n<li>examining <strong>theoretical concepts in business or economics<\/strong>, encouraging students to justify assumptions and consider alternative strategies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Role-play scenarios<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/?attachment_id=17364\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-17364\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17364 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/files\/2026\/03\/Role.jpg\" alt=\"Blackboard Ultra user interface showing the Role Play feature.\" width=\"459\" height=\"420\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/files\/2026\/03\/Role.jpg 398w, https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/files\/2026\/03\/Role-300x274.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 459px) 100vw, 459px\" \/><\/a>Role-play allows students to interact with an AI persona within a simulated scenario, creating opportunities for <strong>experiential learning<\/strong>, where students practise applying knowledge and professional skills in a safe environment.<\/p>\n<p>For example, you could create scenarios where students:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>interview a <strong>convicted criminal persona<\/strong> to practise investigative questioning and managing challenging responses<\/li>\n<li>act as a <strong>doctor speaking with a patient<\/strong> to develop communication and diagnostic reasoning<\/li>\n<li>take part in a <strong>business negotiation<\/strong> with a difficult client<\/li>\n<li>conduct a <strong>journalistic interview<\/strong> with a historical or political figure<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These types of activities allow students to experiment with decision-making, questioning techniques, and communication strategies before encountering similar situations in real-world contexts. AI role-play provides a space where students can practise skills, make mistakes, and refine their approach without the risks associated with real scenarios.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Supporting reflection and feedback<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At the end of the conversation, students complete a short reflection explaining how the interaction advanced their understanding of the topic.
