At Teesside University, we recognise the vital role personal tutoring plays in supporting students to reach their full potential. As part of our ongoing commitment to student success, we are hosting a workshop focused on the University\u2019s Personal Tutoring Code of Practice. This session will provide staff with a deeper understanding of the principles that guide personal tutoring at Teesside and explore how tutors can proactively support students\u2019 academic, personal, and professional development.<\/p>\n
The session will cover the aims and rationale behind the Personal Tutoring Code of Practice, discussing how it contributes to student success and aligns with the University\u2019s broader goals. We will also highlight the key principles that ensure personal tutoring is consistent, equitable, and structured across all Schools and departments.<\/p>\n
Personal tutors are expected to take a proactive role in supporting students both academically and personally. The workshop will focus on how tutors can leverage data and analytics to help improve student performance and support them in achieving their potential. In addition to academic guidance, tutors are responsible for offering pastoral care, providing wellbeing support, and referring students to additional services, such as SLS and Student Success, when appropriate.<\/p>\n
The workshop will also introduce the Academic Enhancement Framework (AEF), particularly the \u2018Student Success\u2019 strand, which equips tutors with the tools needed to create a positive, data-driven tutoring experience.<\/p>\n
This session is ideal for new academic staff who are personal tutors, as well as any academic or support staff interested in learning more about personal tutoring at Teesside. By adopting a proactive, data-informed approach, we can ensure our students receive the support they need to succeed both academically and professionally.<\/p>\n
