{"id":15591,"date":"2024-04-25T12:00:50","date_gmt":"2024-04-25T11:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/?p=15591"},"modified":"2024-04-23T13:14:38","modified_gmt":"2024-04-23T12:14:38","slug":"blackboard-features-and-functionality-update-february-2024-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/2024\/04\/25\/blackboard-features-and-functionality-update-february-2024-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Blackboard features and functionality update April 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5><a id=\"Top\"><\/a>Introduction<\/h5>\n<p>Anthology releases monthly incremental updates to their Blackboard software.\u00a0 The <strong>April<\/strong> update brings the following new features and improvements:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"#Non\">Student Non-Submission Feedback Update<\/a>.\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: lower-alpha\">\n<li><a href=\"#Staff\">Staff Workflow.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#Student\">Student Workflow.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#Anonymous\">Allow anonymous responses and replies in discussion boards<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#Duplicate\">Duplicate a test\/form question option, plus a change to the default test question value<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#Likert\">Likert-form questions include options for 4 and 6, as well as 3, 5, and 7<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#Contact\">Contact Us<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This blog post will guide you through these new features, how they can benefit a module and the workflows to implement them.<\/p>\n<h5><a id=\"Non\"><\/a>1. Student non-submission feedback feature<\/h5>\n<p>Previously, students could only be given assessment scores and feedback after they had submitted the assessment.\u00a0 Blackboard now allows a score and feedback to be provided to a student if no submission has been received.\u00a0 There are times when this is appropriate; however, they are few and far between.<\/p>\n<p>Examples include:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>When a student(s) submits work in a format that is not compatible with the Blackboard learning environment.<\/li>\n<li>If a student has not submitted or has incorrectly submitted (such as through email), this would allow the academic to still give feedback.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>*NOTE<\/strong> This feature only impacts assignments created in Blackboard and not those created in Turnitin. It also requires staff to follow a different workflow to post feedback and for students to receive it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right\"><a href=\"#Top\">Back to top<\/a><\/p>\n<h5><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><a id=\"Staff\"><\/a>The new workflow for <u>staff<\/u> is as follows:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li>Add a score for the student in the correct assignment in the <strong>Gradebook<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/?attachment_id=15593\" <strong>Gradebook<\/strong> from the top menu.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 *NOTE<\/strong> Students cannot access non-submission grades and feedback through the assignment will not show this non-submission feedback.\u00a0 Students can only access non-feedback through the Gradebook.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>Once in the <strong>Gradebook<\/strong>, the student will see the assessment score and a small purple icon that looks like a speech bubble to the right of the score.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/?attachment_id=15597\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-15597\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15597\" message.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right\"><a href=\"#Top\">Back to top<\/a><\/p>\n<h5><a id=\"Anonymous\"><\/a>2. Allow anonymous responses and replies in Discussion Boards.<\/h5>\n<p>April\u2019s upgrade will allow staff to set up Ultra Discussion Boards to allow students to post and reply to posts anonymously. To post anonymously, the \u2018<strong>Post anonymously<\/strong>\u2019 checkbox will need to be selected.\u00a0 Once a post is submitted anonymously, its anonymity cannot be altered. Likert form questions now include scale options for 4 and 6, as well as 3, 5, and 7.<\/h5>\n<p>The February 2024 Blackboard SaaS upgrade introduced the \u2018<strong>Forms<\/strong>\u2019 tool. One of the question types available in the new Form tool is a \u2018Likert\u2019 question. \u00a0This is a type of survey question that asks respondents to indicate their level of agreement or disagreement with a statement, usually on a numeric scale ranging from strongly agree to strongly disagree.<\/p>\n<p>When this question type was first released, its scale only included scale options for 3, 5, or 7 points.
