{"id":15288,"date":"2024-02-14T12:00:54","date_gmt":"2024-02-14T12:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/?p=15288"},"modified":"2024-02-14T11:36:43","modified_gmt":"2024-02-14T11:36:43","slug":"blackboard-features-and-functionality-update-february-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/2024\/02\/14\/blackboard-features-and-functionality-update-february-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Blackboard features and functionality update February 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>Introduction<\/h5>\n<p>Anthology releases monthly incremental updates to their Blackboard software, the <strong>February<\/strong> update brings the following new features and improvements:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"#Form\">New Forms &amp; Survey Feature<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#Likert\">New question type: Likert<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#Activity\">Course activity report improvements<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This blog post will guide you through some of the new features, why they have been introduced, how they can benefit a module and how to incorporate them into your teaching.<\/p>\n<h5><a id=\"Form\"><\/a>01: Forms\/Surveys<\/h5>\n<p>Using this new feature, staff are now able to use forms\/surveys. The Forms tool is very similar to the current Test tool but with a slightly different set of questions that can be used, including a Likert scale question. Forms are intended to be used where staff want to collect information from students but where there is no correct answer and usually, where there is no requirement to grade or provide feedback on the response.\u00a0 However, there is an option to grade a form response and add feedback, but the default state for forms is to be automatically marked as complete upon submission.<\/p>\n<p>To use a form in your module, select the + (plus) button in the course content area, and choose \u2018Form\u2019.<\/p>\n<h5><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-15290 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/files\/2024\/02\/Image01.jpg\" alt=\"Image shows the new Form assessment object that can be created in Blackboard Ultra\" width=\"232\" height=\"457\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/files\/2024\/02\/Image01.jpg 307w, https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/files\/2024\/02\/Image01-152x300.jpg 152w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 232px) 100vw, 232px\" \/><\/h5>\n<p>The following question types are supported in forms:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Essay question (i.e., an open\/free response question)<\/li>\n<li>Likert question<\/li>\n<li>Multiple choice question<\/li>\n<li>True\/false question<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, staff can use:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Add text<\/strong> to add sections of text that do not require a response from students (e.g., to explain more about a particular section of the form)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Add Page Break<\/strong> to split up longer forms.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Add local files<\/strong> can be used where staff want to upload files for use by students when completing the form.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-15291\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/files\/2024\/02\/Image02.jpg\" alt=\"Image showing the questions types that can be used in the new Form Assessment type in Blackboard Ultra\" width=\"342\" height=\"447\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/files\/2024\/02\/Image02.jpg 432w, https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/files\/2024\/02\/Image02-230x300.jpg 230w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 342px) 100vw, 342px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Current limitations of forms<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please note that in this initial release of forms, it is not possible to collect responses anonymously.\u00a0 Note also that there is no single-select multiple-choice tool in forms as there is in tests, as the \u2018Add Multiple Choice Question\u2019 tool works differently in forms and tests. When setting a multiple-choice question in a form, students will be able to select more than one option, including all options. Additionally, the Likert question type only allows ranges of 3, 5, and 7 to be used.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right\"><a href=\"#Top\">Back to top<\/a><\/p>\n<h5><a id=\"Likert\"><\/a>02: New question type: Likert<\/h5>\n<p>The new Likert question type can enhance assessment capabilities for academic staff and <u>is only available<\/u> in the new \u2018Form\u2019 assessment type.
