{"id":13003,"date":"2022-10-06T12:00:08","date_gmt":"2022-10-06T11:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/?p=13003"},"modified":"2022-10-06T13:56:33","modified_gmt":"2022-10-06T12:56:33","slug":"pedagogic-action-reasearhnov","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/2022\/10\/06\/pedagogic-action-reasearhnov\/","title":{"rendered":"Pedagogic Action Reasearch: An Honest Account of a Powerful Approach &#8211; Prof Lydia Arnold &#8211; Book Now!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Pedagogic Research Talk will be delivered via Microsoft Team on Wednesday 2nd November, 2:00pm \u2013 4:00pm. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the first <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/ltexchange\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600\">LTE<\/span>x<span style=\"color: #800080\">Change<\/span><\/strong><\/a> Network Research Talk of the year, Professor Lydia Arnold (Director of Education, Harper Adams University) introduces and discusses what it means to \u2018do\u2019 pedagogic action research in higher education. Lydia has published widely on the topic of Action Research and has developed sector-leading resources supporting higher education practitioners who are interested in improving students\u2019 learning experiences through the process of researching their own practice.<\/p>\n<p>This talk will introduce, explore, and exemplify\u00a0pedagogic action research.\u00a0First, to set the scene, I will\u00a0simply\u00a0consider what\u00a0action research\u00a0is and what it is not.\u00a0Then using\u00a0examples,\u00a0I will\u00a0identify\u00a0some of\u00a0the\u00a0many benefits\u00a0of\u00a0pedagogic action research\u00a0for\u00a0individuals,\u00a0teams,\u00a0and\u00a0whole institutions. I will\u00a0demonstrate\u00a0how\u00a0pedagogic action research\u00a0can trigger changes to practice and shifts in our individual thinking,\u00a0how it can\u00a0impact\u00a0individual career trajectories,\u00a0and how it can\u00a0even\u00a0\u2018rock the boat\u2019 of\u00a0established\u00a0institutional\u00a0approaches. Added to this, I\u2019ll discuss how building a community of action researchers could further amplify research impact while also making the process of research even more enjoyable!\u00a0It is important to surface some of the difficulties of action research; not everything is transformational of course, and sometimes projects can be tricky to manage.\u00a0Drawing upon experience of over sixty supervisions, the talk will offer a frank appraisal of some of the challenges\u00a0of doing and supporting\u00a0pedagogic action research. Finally, drawing on\u00a0work undertaken with Professor Lin Norton, I will outline some of the key steps for an action researcher to take.
