In addition to Blackboard, ReView allows media-rich content to be created and consumed by students.<\/p>\n<p>This guide will focus on the use of the above as the University moves toward hybrid delivery to ensure the sustainability of learning in the event of disruption to teaching on campus. We recommend you use the tools you are most familiar with to enable a good learning experience.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Blackboard Access<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>At Teesside, all taught modules have relevant Blackboard modules. In the first instance, it is recommended you are enrolled on the appropriate modules that you are teaching, or may be required to teach at a Course Level.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Check your module enrolments \u2013 please remember that even though you are not the module leader, there may be modules that are taught across the course that you may need access to. Your Admin team will be able to assist you with this.<\/li>\n<li>There are minimum requirements to access Blackboard. This <a href=\"https:\/\/eatsupport.tees.ac.uk\/blackboard\/browserchecker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">guide<\/a> will let you check your browser will run Blackboard.<\/li>\n<li>You do not need to have a University provided device to access Blackboard, it is accessible on both University and personal devices at <a href=\"https:\/\/eat.tees.ac.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/eat.tees.ac.uk<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Information and guidance on how to provide material to <strong>External Examiners<\/strong> for modules using the Blackboard VLE (via the <strong>Electronic Module Box)<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/2020\/05\/26\/support-for-external-examiners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Quick Start Guide<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/eatsupport.tees.ac.uk\/staff\/knowledgebase\/blackboard-staff-quick-start-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Staff Quick Start Guide to Blackboard<\/a> is a great place to start for staff who would like an overview or refresher of Blackboard and its features.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Content<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Hybrid learning is not about shifting content online but a clearly mapped out and self-explanatory student journey.\u00a0 Blackboard has a number of features to help you manage content.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/eatsupport.tees.ac.uk\/staff\/knowledgebase\/copying-previous-module-content-into-new-modules\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Content<\/a> can be copied from one module to another, and you can copy from different years.<\/li>\n<li>Structuring your materials will streamline online learning. Content can be organised into <a href=\"https:\/\/eatsupport.tees.ac.uk\/staff\/knowledgebase\/blackboard-staff-quick-start-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">folders<\/a> \u2013 for example, folders can be used to structure content by subject, by date or by tutor.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure content is as up to date and as accurate as possible. If in doubt, Blackboard allows you to switch to a <a href=\"https:\/\/eatsupport.tees.ac.uk\/staff\/knowledgebase\/using-student-preview-mode\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Student View<\/a>, ensuring that the content you are delivering is appropriate and accurate.<\/li>\n<li>Content can be <a href=\"https:\/\/eatsupport.tees.ac.uk\/staff\/knowledgebase\/blackboard-staff-quick-start-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">date released<\/a> using adaptive release tools if needed. This allows you to pre-populate content and have it released to students at a later date.<\/li>\n<li>Check your <a href=\"https:\/\/eatsupport.tees.ac.uk\/staff\/knowledgebase\/reading-lists-in-blackboard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reading List<\/a> is up to date. This will allow students to access online content from the library.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Learning Resources<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Instructions and clear information is part of supporting students to succeed in a hybrid model of learning. Whether you provide these regular instructions via audio, video or text-based means, the clarity will help students understand what they are doing, at which point in time, how to undertake an activity and why they are doing so.\u00a0 We have further guidance to help you develop and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/2020\/04\/23\/content-curation-techniques\/\">curate your learning resources<\/a> including <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/2020\/04\/22\/video-as-a-teaching-resource\/\">tips for using video as a teaching resource<\/a> and ways of using <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/2017\/05\/23\/bite-size-video\/\">bite-size video to help breakdown information into accessible chunks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It is also essential to develop learning resources that are accessible to all learners.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/2020\/04\/06\/creating-accessible-powerpoints\/\">Creating accessible PowerPoints<\/a> often involves some simple steps.\u00a0 The <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/2019\/06\/14\/accessible-powerpoint-presentations\/\">Microsoft accessibility checker inbuilt into PowerPoint<\/a> will help you further develop presentation resources that everyone can access.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Assessments<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Blackboard is well equipped to cope with various modes of assessment. For online submission of work \u2013 an essay for example \u2013 you have two options: Blackboard Assignments or Turnitin Assignments. If you are not sure which to use, you should check with your Module Leader to find out whether your School requires you to use a certain type of assignment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Assignments<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>You can <a href=\"https:\/\/eatsupport.tees.ac.uk\/staff\/knowledgebase\/creating-an-assignment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">create a Blackboard Assignment<\/a> so that students can submit work to you electronically, <a href=\"https:\/\/eatsupport.tees.ac.uk\/staff\/knowledgebase\/grading-an-assignment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">grading can also be done electronically.<\/a> Should students make a mistake and submit the wrong piece of work, you can clear out their attempt and allow them another try. This <a href=\"https:\/\/eatsupport.tees.ac.uk\/staff\/knowledgebase\/clearing-an-attempt-in-the-grade-centre\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">guide<\/a> will explain the steps. Please Note: Batch Feedback is not compatible with Turnitin Assignments.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/eatsupport.tees.ac.uk\/staff\/knowledgebase\/creating-a-blackboard-test-survey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Blackboard tests<\/a> are a great way to provide formative self-assessment options for your students, including the ability to provide automated feedback.<\/li>\n<li>All Assessments in Blackboard are collated in the <a href=\"https:\/\/eatsupport.tees.ac.uk\/staff\/knowledgebase\/tests-surveys-the-grade-centre\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Grade Centre<\/a>. This guide will go through some of the benefits of using quizzes, and discuss some hints and tips to help you get the most out of this aspect of a module.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Communication<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>There are several different approaches to communicating with your students. This can be done both asynchronously (<em>communication that is not time-dependant<\/em>) and synchronously (<em>communication that occurs in real time<\/em>), depending on your needs. It gives students access to lecture recordings and other video content that they can access in their own time.<\/p>\n<p>We encourage you to use ReView to transform content that would normally be delivered face-to-face to share subject knowledge. It can be used for \u2018personal capture\u2019, such as module introduction video, monologues, walk throughs, short \u2018did you know\u2019 videos or quick responses to student questions. This can help to imitate the on-campus experience that a student would normally have.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Benefits of ReView:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Video content sits inside your module, and students can access the content using any device. The student simply needs to press play and the video will automatically stream based on the device the student is using. They don\u2019t need specific software, and they don\u2019t need to download the video before playing.<\/li>\n<li>If recording using a PowerPoint presentation, ReView will keep the slide integrity, allowing students to dip in and out of video material, allowing them to maximise their time.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Guidance on using ReView<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are guides on <a href=\"https:\/\/eatsupport.tees.ac.uk\/staff\/knowledgebase\/getting-started-with-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">getting started with ReView<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.tees.ac.uk\/lteonline\/2020\/04\/02\/using-review-to-record-lectures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">using ReView to record your lectures<\/a> to help you begin to use ReView.
