SUMMARY:ChatGPT: What should assessment look like now?
DESCRIPTION:ChatGPT Online Events: Exploring Responses to AI in Higher Education \nThe rise of artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed various aspects of our lives\, including education. AI-powered technologies such as ChatGPT are becoming more popular in higher education\, providing students and educators with new ways to engage with course material\, collaborate\, and evaluate learning outcomes. However\, the increasing use of AI in education also raises important questions and concerns about its impact on teaching and learning. \n\nHow can we ensure that AI is used ethically and effectively in higher education?\nWhat is the appropriate response to the use of AI in assessments?\n\nAbout this event \nHow do you design assessments now that students can use ChatGPT? What does ‘innovative authentic assessment’ even mean? Do I have to re-write all my modules? This online webinar will unearth the true meaning of authentic assessment and give attendees real life examples of assessment design that account for ChatGPT but still offer an accurate way to assess what a student has learned. \nSpeakers confirmed: \n\nJan McArthur\, Senior Lecturer in Education and Social Justice at Lancaster University\, UK\nMatthew Glanville\, Head of Assessment Principles and Practice at The International Bacalaureate\nDr Thomas Lancaster\, Senior Teaching Fellow at Imperial College London and Chair of QAA’s Academic Integrity Advisory Group\nLibby Farrier-Williams\, Senior Lecturer in Marketing and Higher Education researcher at Canterbury Christ Church University\n\nTo book a place please click here.

SUMMARY:Designing Learning Experiences on Blackboard Ultra
DESCRIPTION:Blackboard Ultra is the University’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). It is a modern\, responsive platform\, designed to function on all devices (including mobile)\, and is used for all our campus taught courses. \nA series of monthly institution-wide sessions aimed at colleagues in Schools understand the basics of Blackboard Ultra and get to grips with the features they will be expected to use when setting up and delivering modules and assessing learning. A key feature of these sessions will be to help colleagues design impactful learning experiences on the VLE\, ensuring that the VLE becomes an expansion of the learning ecosystem. \nTo book a place on this session please click here.  \nIn addition to these monthly sessions\, we encourage you to reach out to us for one-to-one coaching on course design on the VLE via elearning@tees.ac.uk. \nWe have prepared for all staff a self-study CPD package of learning here: https://blogs.tees.ac.uk/lteonline/2021/10/05/blackboard-ultra-self-study-cpd-2/

SUMMARY:Introduction to Academic Workload at TU
DESCRIPTION:Introduction to the Academic Workload Management Framework and Academic Workload System for Academic staff at Teesside University \nWednesday 19th April 2023 \n12-1pm \nSLAR Lead: Simon Hood \nDelivery:  MS Teams\, 1 hour \nWorkload Management in Teesside University comprises two key elements – the Academic Workload Management Framework (AWMF) and the Academic Workload System (AWS). The Academic Workload Framework provides a comprehensive\, common and clear set of arrangements to recognise academic work activities and responsibilities with appropriate tariff allocations.  The Academic Workload System provides a fully integrated University systems infrastructure which ensures University management information is located and accessible in real-time to all stakeholders as appropriate throughout the year. \nThis session will introduce academic staff to the AWMF along with discussing the process of workload planning\, publication and acceptance of workload allocations. \nTo book\, click here.

SUMMARY:Using Learner Analytics impactfully for student support via StREAM
DESCRIPTION:StREAM is the University’s learner analytics platform. The use of learner analytics is designed to support all our students in maximising their chances of success and realising their potential. SLAR will be hosting a series of monthly institution-wide sessions on StREAM aimed at teaching staff to will help you understand the platform and the affordances of learner analytics for timely student support. We will cover: \n\nUsing Real time data – StREAM takes data from a wide range of digital touch points\, which together represents participation in academic learning.\nUnderstanding engagement Algorithm – An algorithm is applied to our data\, tailored to reflect how engagement is represented at Teesside\, which calculates an overall “engagement score” indicator for each student.\nInterpreting engagement Score – A simple measure of engagement for easy-to-understand visualisation and interpretation of data.\nReviewing holistic View – Taking the engagement information en-masse\, StREAM also provides a holistic view of how students are engaging at school and course level.\n\nIn the meantime\, user guides\, and associated materials around the Personal Tutoring Code of Practice\, Information Governance and guidance from SLS can be found here: Student Learning & Academic Registry – Learner Analytics (tees.ac.uk \nPlease note this session is face to face. \nTo book a place on this session please click here.

SUMMARY:Academic Skills and Artificial Intelligence in Education
DESCRIPTION:Friday 28th April 2023\nTeesside University\nMiddlesbrough campus event \nTogether with Turnitin\, Teesside University is hosting an institution-wide event\nbringing together a wide range of academics and practitioners to discuss how we\ncontinue to reimagine the support for the development of students’ academic skills in\nlight of generative AI tools. With the rise of generative AI systems like ChatGPT\, this\nadds another layer of complexity to the issue of academic integrity. These systems\ncan generate humanlike responses to a wide range of prompts\, including essay\nquestions. The question is: If the AI is good enough to produce something that could\nbe a student’s work\, how will we ever really know what is the student’s work and\nwhat was done by a machine? The event will be collaborative and aims to encourage\nconversations around how learning\, knowledge creation\, and assessments practices\ncan be reimaged to support the development of future-readiness in our graduates. \n09:30-09:45 Coffee\, Introductions and context\n09:45-10:15 Academic Skills and Graduate Attributes\n10:15-11:00 Artificial Intelligence in Education\n11:00-11:15 Break/Coffee\n11:15-12:00 Academic Integrity\n12:00-12:45 Top tips on using Feedback Studio: Features and\nFunctionalities including its AI\n12:45-13:00 Close and Next Steps \nThis session is now full.
