SUMMARY:Recognising Excellence in Learning and Teaching (RELT) Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is specifically for colleagues who would like to seek formal recognition for the work they do in teaching and supporting learning in HE.  Teesside University Professional Development Framework for Teaching and Supporting Learning: Recognising Excellence in Learning and Teaching (RELT) is accredited by Advance HE and provides participants with the opportunity to be professionally recognised through Advance HE’s Fellowship Scheme. \nIt is relevant for all colleagues involved in teaching and supporting learning and will provide colleagues with a greater understanding around how the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF) relates to their professional practice.  Formal\, external recognition of individual teaching and supporting learning expertise is becoming increasingly important for both individual staff and HEI’s.  Teesside University is accredited to award a range of Fellowships (HEA)\, as appropriate\, to our staff at no cost to the individual. \nTo book this workshop please click here.

SUMMARY:Developing Practice in Personal Tutoring: Personal Tutoring Code of Practice
DESCRIPTION:This session will focus around the University’s Personal Tutoring Code of Practice; we will discuss its aims and rationale and the key principles that form the basic underpinning of the Code.  We will explore the key responsibilities of Personal Tutoring at Teesside and the pastoral\, academic and professional/career conversations that take place between tutor and tutee. \nColleagues will be introduced to the Academic Enhancement Framework (AEF) and particularly the ‘Student Success’ strand which incorporates the expectations around personal tutoring and working with data held within StREAM to support success. Key guidance around handling and recordings of personal and sensitive data under GDPR legislature will also be provided. \nStaff will be encouraged to work towards enhancement and excellence in these areas. \nPersonal Tutors should be proactive in their role and focus on improving student performance providing a consistent\, equitable\, structured and data informed approach for all students to pastoral\, general academic and professional support.  Providing general academic support will be focussed around assisting the student achieve their potential (drawing on analytics to facilitate the discussions).  In supporting students around pastoral and professional related issues it may be appropriate to direct them to colleagues across the University who can provide more bespoke support (for example SLS and Student Learning in SLAR). \nThis session is relevant to all new academic colleagues who are Personal Tutors within their Schools and may also be relevant to other academic and support staff who wish to find out more about Personal Tutoring at Teesside University. \nPlease click here to book.

SUMMARY:New to Teaching Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This New to Teaching Workshop is facilitated by colleagues from the Education and Social Work Department in SSSHL.  The session will mainly focus on planning and delivering sessions but will also consider assessment\, feedback and marking. There will be an opportunity for you to share challenges\, experiences and concerns that you may have around teaching and supporting learning in Higher Education. SUMMARY:Personal Tutoring: Managing boundaries and knowing when to refer when dealing with student mental health and welfare
DESCRIPTION:This session will focus on information for student facing staff who might be presented with a student in distress. The session aims to inform staff about strategies they can use to de-escalate a situation and what questions to ask to find out relevant information to refer appropriately. Boundaries will be explored so that staff feel confident about appropriate actions when managing a potential crisis situation and can identify when specialist intervention is required. DESCRIPTION:TU Global mission is to enhance the students’ experience through international student mobility.  To achieve this mission\, TU Global works with our partners abroad to offer a wide range of mobility programmes to our students. \nMobility is essential to our students to get them ready for the future.  While less than 2% of students at a UK university study abroad as part of their studies\, TU aims to increase our impact on students and double every year the number of TU students going abroad.  Last year\, over 60 students took part in International Mobility\, and we are working on 22 mobility projects for 2022/23. \nJoin this session and learn how you can help your students to take part in these opportunities and how TU Global can support you in developing international mobility projects including funding proposals. \nTo book a place on this session please click here.
