Continuous Monitoring and Enhancement (CME)

Continuous Monitoring and Enhancement (CME) is the process the University uses to assure academic standards are maintained and to enhance the quality of learning opportunities for students.  The process is used to consider the student experience at course level, referencing key student satisfaction indicators, for example, the National Student Survey (NSS), Graduate Outcome statistics, the results of module evaluation, feedback from Student Voice Forums and from staff.  In addition, the process incorporates the views of external stakeholders, such as External Examiners and Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Bodies (PSRBs).  CME is a process of ongoing reflection informing course action planning, development and enhancement. The University’s approach to CME is based on capturing evidence of what has worked well and areas requiring enhancement.  However, one of the key drivers is that Course Teams are able to respond to evidence and feedback as and when the need arises, so that students and the course can benefit from real time enhancement.  It is expected that this will include liaison with Central Departments to resolve issues and highlight good practice for wider dissemination ‘in year’.

This session will be particularly relevant for new Course Leaders or existing Course Leaders wanting a reminder.  It will provide an understanding of the University’s CME process and in particular discuss the Course Journal which is the main mechanism for CME providing the means to ensure the effectiveness and currency of courses and encourages continued enhancement through ongoing reflection.  While the session will direct colleagues to relevant data sources it will not go into detail around accessing specific data and interrogating it.
