Week 4

For week 4, I have done research about my chosen design along with starting to plan out what each screen will look like. I have also added mechanics that I want to add to the game once all the UI elements are done. The mechanics I want to add are a freeze grenade/gun, collection system, health system, saving and loading, skill tree, melee combat, ranged combat and a stun grenade to act as laughing gas from The Joker. In the following week I will be making concept designs for each element within my design prototype. This will include main menu, pause menu, settings, HUD, character select, collection tab and each sub settings page. This will vary in colours, font, placements and how it is designed.

Week 3

For week 3 I have started with a flowchart to show how each menu will interact with each other, once this was completed I started to create base functionality within unreal. Which is the Title screen to Main Menu to Character selection. My original plan is to create 9 characters in total with different skills within the skill tree however this will be reduced due to time frame. At minimum I want to complete 3 characters in total, this included character selection art, custom skills within skill tree (not mechanical only appearance) and possibly custom HUD depending on the character.

Week 2 Part 2

For the second part of week 2 I did more research and thought about my final idea more. The moodboards I created are another Batman game (Batman Arkham City) and comic books of Batman, The Joker and Deadpool. The reason I added comics is because it gave me inspiration for the menu design rather than trying to be like the other games I wanted to create something unique. My idea is to have the main menu system like a comic book and a character select is the characters in a unique environment that they will be seen in and when the player chooses another one it seems like a page turning like a comic book. The reason I added Deadpool to the comic list is because I grew up reading Deadpool comics and still love them to this day, without reading the comics I would of never came up with this idea for my artefact.

Week 2 Part 1

For this week I have done research for my artefact, I am going to base my UI about The Joker from Batman, theses are some moodboards from Batman games. I started with Lego Batman even though this game is mainly Lego based it still uses colours and elements that are different from other Lego games. The second game I have used as a reference is Batman Arkham Knight which shows different mechanics and UI elements I did not even think of for my own UI. The colours for this UI is also very different compared to the Lego game and opposite of what I was expecting from this game/series. Instead of yellows and reds such as the Lego game, Batman Arkham Knight uses blues in different shades along with some white for clearer information. I will be using this research within my final artefact.
